I was in the midst of a work day when the word “The Restrainer” kept on echoing in my spirit in the face of Hurricane Irma which was luring to make landing over this weekend in South East USA. I shared it with a sister and hence my journey in exploring the Holy Spirit anew.
I love how Isaiah introduced Him (JESUS) to us in the old testament!!!!
Even before John was making way in the Desert for Hope to enter our realm, Isaiah gave the testimony of the one who would reconcile us with the Invisible God. He is man “child is born”, a Son of God “Son is given”; God Himself (Mighty God).
Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John echoed these same truth
John 1:1-4 NKJV
The Eternal Word
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
It is an undisputable fact the mysterious and magnanimous Trio (God; Son :pre-incarnate Christ; and Holy Spirit) were in cahoots with each other from the beginning: A beautiful dance and hierarchy only they can comprehend. This is the Basis of Christendom. They were there from the beginning and created everything from NOTHING. God spoke and everything came to be.
The History of Creation
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the SPIRIT OF GOD was hovering over the face of the waters.
And the Son promised to his disciples that upon His return to the Father, the Helper, the Comforter will be sent to them so they are not alone and without guidance: a spiritual shepherd. There are no greater words of comfort than these.
John 14: 25-27 NKJV
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said,[e] ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
The Holy Spirit is a beautiful gift from the Father not to leave us as orphans without guide and comfort. He has given us a glimpse of his divine work in us which makes The Holy Spirit/God our address which he has promised from old and fulfilled in the new covenant.
Ezekiel 36: 25-27 NKJV
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
2 Corinthians 3:2-3 NKJV
2 You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; 3 clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.
There are many attributes of the Holy Spirit but his fruits are visible as inscribed on the pages of the Galatian Epistles. God commands and commends us to walk in the leading of the Holy Spirit and these fruits will manifest:
Walking in the Spirit
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18 BUT if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are:
(PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THESE)
adultery,[c] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[d] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that THOSE WHO PRACTICE SUCH THINGS WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
The Holy Spirit is the RESTRAINER (from willful sin); The conscience of God alive in us reminding us that we are a new creation in Christ; His Holy Priesthood; His chosen People; the Sheep of His pasture; Reminding us to be perfect as He is perfect and to chose Him above our fleshly desires. He has also promised that with every temptation, He will offer us a way out.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; BUT GOD IS FAITHFUL, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, BUT with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
“LOVE IS WHO YOU ARE” and “YOU ARE GOD’S ADDRESS“. The Holy Spirit has made His home in you and just like Jesus who is “the Light of the world”, You are light bearers.
Phillippians 2: 12-16 Light Bearers NKJV
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing, 15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.
This light that you carry inside of you will allow you to battle victoriously against your enemy the devil:
1 Peter 5: 5-11 NKJV
Submit to God, Resist the Devil
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”[b]
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because[c] your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 RESIST HIM, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may[d] the God of all grace, who called us[e] to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
He has not left us defenseless. He has armed us with the truth: WORD OF God which is THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT (JESUS HIMSELF) to slay the enemy and all his lies by faith as you go from glory to glory. The Battle is the Lord and through God’s word you will restrain and destroy the work of the evil one.
The Whole Armor of God
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 ABOVE ALL taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 PRAYING ALWAYS WITH ALL PRAYERS AND SUPPLICATION IN THE SPIRIT, BEING WATCHFUL TO THIS END WITH ALL PERSERVERANCE AND SUPPLICATION FOR ALL THE SAINTS.
THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE GREAT RESTRAINER AND DESTROYER OF EVIL AND ALL HIS SCHEMES IS AT WORK WITHIN YOU AND TO DISPLAY THE GLORY OF GOD.
“The CHIEF end of man, is to GLORIFY God” Unknown
